Shipping Line Officer
Job Overview
A Shipping Line Officer specializing in export work within a clearing and forwarding company oversees and coordinates export shipments. This role involves ensuring compliance with international shipping regulations, managing documentation, liaising with clients, and ensuring smooth cargo movement from the origin to the destination.
Key Responsibilities
Documentation and Compliance
- Prepare and verify export documentation, including bills of lading, commercial invoices, packing lists, shipping instructions, etc.
- Ensure compliance with local and international shipping regulations and customs requirements.
- Submit necessary export declarations and coordinate with customs authorities for clearances.
Coordination with Stakeholders
- Act as a point of contact between clients, shipping lines, customs officials, and other stakeholders.
- Schedule and manage bookings with shipping lines(Such as Maersk, MSC, COSCO, PIL, and CMA lines, etc.) for containerized cargo. Submitting the LP, DN, and other documents on time;
- Ensure timely communication of shipment status to clients.
Operational Management
- Monitor container availability and communicate with the SL to ensure the availability of the empty containers.
- Track shipments and ensure cargo is loaded as per schedules.
- Address and resolve operational issues, such as delays, demurrage, or discrepancies in cargo.
Customer Service and Relationship Management
- Maintain strong relationships with different shipping lines by providing timely and accurate updates on the documents.
- Assist clients with any export-related queries or issues.
Cost Management
- Negotiate freight rates with shipping lines and other service providers.
- Prepare and process invoices for freight and other charges.
Education and Experience
- College or Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Trade, or a related field.
- 3 years and above of experience in shipping, freight forwarding, or logistics, with a focus on exports.
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of export procedures, INCOTERMS, and international trade regulations.
- Familiarity with different shipping lines about the booking and operation procedures;
- Familiarity with customs and shipping line portals for documentation and tracking.
Soft Skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with shipping lines and stakeholders effectively.
- Problem-solving ability to handle operational challenges under tight deadlines.
- Attention to detail to ensure accuracy in documentation and compliance.
