Mechanical Foreman - Mtwara
The candidate for this role will be responsible for supervising and coordinating mechanical maintenance activities and leading mechanical maintenance teams.
Purpose of the role
The candidate for this role will be responsible for supervising and coordinating mechanical maintenance activities, leading mechanical maintenance teams, and ensuring heavy equipment and mechanical systems are maintained safely, efficiently, and in accordance with maintenance requirements and occupational health and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise and coordinate daily mechanical maintenance activities and ensure maintenance work is completed effectively and according to schedule.
Lead and allocate tasks to mechanical maintenance teams and provide technical guidance and supervision.
Carry out and oversee preventive and corrective maintenance activities on mechanical equipment and heavy equipment.
Inspect mechanical equipment and systems to identify faults, breakdowns, wear, and maintenance requirements.
Apply practical knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and power-transmission systems when supervising maintenance and repair activities.
Read and interpret mechanical drawings, manuals, equipment specifications, and other technical documentation.
Monitor the quality and progress of mechanical maintenance work and ensure appropriate maintenance practices are followed.
Prepare and maintain maintenance reports, records, and other relevant documentation.
Coordinate with relevant teams to minimize equipment downtime and support reliable operations.
Ensure all mechanical maintenance activities comply with occupational health and safety requirements.
Maintain good housekeeping and ensure maintenance tools, equipment, and work areas are properly managed.
Perform any other duties related to mechanical maintenance as assigned by management.
Qualifications & Experience
Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Fitting, Plant Maintenance, or a related technical field
Minimum of 3 years of relevant mechanical maintenance experience, preferably in mining, quarrying, construction, manufacturing, or heavy-equipment operations
At least 2 years of experience in a supervisory or foreman role, or demonstrated experience leading a mechanical maintenance team
Strong practical knowledge of mechanical maintenance and heavy equipment
Good knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and power-transmission systems
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, manuals, and equipment specifications
Good understanding of preventive and corrective maintenance practices
Good computer literacy and ability to prepare maintenance reports
Strong understanding of occupational health and safety requirements
